The Center for Experimental Music and Intermedia is an important dimension of the comprehensive curriculum in the division of composition. The mission of CEMI in the new millennium is encompassed in the following goals:

  • To foster the creation, production, and dissemination of innovative projects in computer music and intermedia through scholarly research, education and community outreach activities;

  • To prepare UNT students for the future of technology and the arts by offering a state-of-the-art facility for interactive media and electronic composition;

  • To foster interdisciplinary collaboration among the arts and sciences;
 
  • To forge alliances with industry to assist in commercial application of new media technologies and provide ongoing program sponsorship;

  • To raise the visibility of UNT and promote national and international collaboration by sponsoring conferences, visiting composers and researchers; and

  • To promote research, publications, and new technology in the fields of sound synthesis and composition, digital signal processing, diffusion, human-computer interaction, computer interface devices, haptic/tactile feedback devices, and enabling technologies for persons with disabilities (a natural outgrowth of interactive technology).
